“为什么我还要学习立式钢琴和三角钢琴的整理课程？”

To all my dear friends：

“Why would I want to take another course in upright and grand piano regulating?”

This is a common question, asked many piano technicians like you. You know the specifications of regulating: The “45”, key dip, let off, catch, damper lift, etc. You just use the numbers, and it all works, right?

Not always. Often when we use all the “right numbers”, the piano still does not play very well. You may say: “bad piano, not my fault”, but there is a better way.

We will teach you how to approach all pianos, both upright and grand, and make them work well despite the “quality issues”.

We will teach you how to find the right combination of measurements for any piano, new or old, to make it work well.  We will show you how to use aftertouch as a basis in your action regulation, teach you about the concept of the piano’s essential power train adjustments and how the auxiliary adjustments revolve around the power train. We will also work with key balancing, the basics of voicing, and problems one may encounter when servicing pianos in the field.

We have individual octave models for each student, both upright piano and grand piano, for hands-on work and training. You will be able to put what you learn into practice, be able to ask questions and see results. We will actually balance the keys on an upright piano model and a grand piano model.

Aside from this, we also have an upright and grand piano in the studio to use for learning to set up pedals correctly, some practical voicing training, and tips, and demonstrating some special techniques.

Both teachers have extensive experience in both manufacturing, large repairs, and field work, including concert preparation. Kevin ran a large repair workshop, and several piano factories in Europe and China. Sören has extensive experience working for a Steinway dealer in Germany, and a manufacturer in China. They can both give you insights that you would not normally get from normal technical lectures here.

All this would be useless, if the information could not be correctly translated from English into Chinese. Sammie, Sören’s wife, is a trained translator for the piano industry, and knows the correct technical terminology in both English and Chinese. This ensures, that the students will fully understand the information being imparted, and will be able to pose questions to the teachers, as well as get the proper answers in Chinese.

After taking this course, you should understand how to deal with just about any piano, and regulate it to a high standard. You will no longer worry about knowing what to do when faced with a challenging situation.
